The Spice Girls, A History: Wannabe

Wannabe was the first single off the Spice Girls debut album, Spice -  written in a thirty minute “frenzy of creativity.” It was the girls’ first official writing session - and what transpired was a sort of Frankenstein of a song, a lot of (seemingly) gibberish words and phrases cut and pasted together, then wrapped up with a lot of ~Girl Power~ and an annoyingly catchy tune.

The word “zigazig ah” was a spontaneously created in-joke amongst the girls that essentially meant to orgasm. So, when the ladies are telling their that if he wants to be their lover he has to “slam, slam, slam, slam - slam your body down and wind it all around” and that they really, really wanna “zigazig ah” - they are actually saying “in conjunction with getting along with my friends you better lay it the fuck down in the bedroom.”
